Come to the Cabrini Barnes & Noble Bookfair!

We hope you'll join us for the Cabrini Barnes & Noble Bookfair on Sunday December 18th. A percentage of the purchases you make on that day and for the rest of the week will go to our school.

You do not have to go to the Barnes & Noble in Allen Park for your purchase to "count." You can go to any Barnes & Noble and show them this flyer or you can make your purchase online and enter the code at the bottom of the page.

A Child of Books by Oliver Jeffers and Sam Winston
A must-read for ALL book lovers

Join Mrs. Shaum's Beta Reader Book Club

Are you a voracious middle school reader? Do you want to be the first person to read a potential books to put on our library shelves? Join the Beta Reader Book Club.

What is a beta reader?
In the publishing world, a beta reader is someone who reads a book while it is still in the drafting process and gives the author feedback on how to improve. In our library, beta readers will be my eyes and ears for assessing whether or not a book should be put on our library shelves.

In order to be a beta reader, you must:
Get a parent/guardian's permission
Read the entire book
Write a 2-3 paragraph book review when you finish the book
Give a final recommendation for whether you think the book is appropriate for our library.

Why would I want to be a beta reader?
If you love to read, then you get first dibs on brand new books before they're even put on the library shelves.

This book club is open to 7th and 8th graders.
See Mrs. Shaum for more information and a permission form.

Check out these great authors coming to Michigan in October

Cabrini students, parents, and teachers,

Check out these great authors coming to Nicola's Books in Ann Arbor in October:

Adam Rex and Christian Robinson, Saturday October 1

Adam is the author of the new book School's First Day of School, along with a perennial favorite of mine, The True Meaning of Smekday (which is what the movie Home is based off of). He is also the illustrator of books such as Chloe and the Lion, Billy Twitters and His Blue Whale Problem, and Chu's Day.

Christian Robinson is the illustrator of School's First Day of School as well as the 2016 Caldecott honor book Last Stop on Market Street.

Laurie Halse Anderson, Thursday October 6

Laurie's newest book, Ashes, is the third and final book in the Chains trilogy. She is also known for her classic young adult novel Speak which won a Printz honor, and the page-turning historical fiction novel Fever 1793.
